Question

I bought Jess and my first one had a problem so I called CS and had them make sure those problems were not existant in the replacement, but she has all new problems. Does anyone know if I can call a PS and have them pick me out a replacement? Will I have to pay any extra? Thanks

Yes, you can have a PS pick a doll for you. It won't cost you a dime. I'll be at the Chicago store on Saturday. If you get ahold of a PS, I'd be happy take a peek at the Jess doll they select for you. My PS is Ingrid. Of course, that will mean waiting for a Monday shipment, but I'd be glad to help. Collette and Tracy will be there too. Maybe between the three of us, we can knit-pick them to death and get you the perfect doll!

Awww...that's so nice of you, I'm willing to wait for a doll that has no defects! Do you have a phone number that I could call and ask them about her? Would I have to pay for shipping to ship this one back? Thanks

The number is 877 AG PLACE. There is a prompt for choosing NY or Chicago. It's been a while since I called, so I can't remember if there's a prompt for Personal Shoppers. For some reason, I think there is. Any operator will be able to put you through. I'll be meeting Ingrid between noon and 1 on Saturday. She's always been very helpful with everything, but especially quality control issues. I had two huge fiascoes with Felicity's new items. Laura uses Rita, and she's fantastic as well.
The PS who helps you should be able to send you a label for returning the defective Jess-- or you could send BOTH back with the same label you got from CS (they are sending you a label, right?) and note that a PS helped you find a good one.

I called Ingrid and she told me she couldn't help because I had originally gone through the catalog and I would have to pay to ship my jess and a copy of my reciept to her for anything to happen and then she said she's not positive, but I would also have to pay to have the good doll shipped back to me....soooo since I didn't want to pay an extra $20 just to get a good doll, I am having CS send out another one (they weren't real happy about it), with a note that says make sure it's perfect. Honestly though, there are varying levels of perfection depending on who you ask, but if we are even close I will be happier. Thanks for the offer anyhow, it was very kind.

Been there, done that, with ordering dolls from CS. After receiving two imperfect Elizabeths at different times, I finally called a PS at AGPNY and began the process of ordering all over again. It was worth it, and CS DID reimburse my shipping charges since I was dissatisfied. (For one, at least. I can't remember about the original order.)

From now on, when I want a new doll, I'll call a PS. I'll still order clothes and other items from CS.

This does not bring me much hope. I'm worried I'll just end up settling for one of them to be done with it, but I know I'll be really disappointed later. I just wish that the people at CS were a little more detail oriented, or cared a little more about all the trouble it is for us to go through this three times! She acted so annoyed with me and now I'm thinking wait a minute you were the ones who sent me two defective dolls and I've be disappointed twice now and then have to deal with an irritable rep. I don't know, perhaps from now on, I too will go through a PS. Ingrid was very nice.

If you get a ornery rep, can you ask for her/his supervisor?

You know...I don't think I've ever gotten an ornery CS rep at American Girl. I must be lucky in that respect!

Regardless...I would demand a perfect doll. These aren't Dollar store dolls after all!
